The Lumi Studio
Sculptural lighting and interiors, made in Yorkshire through robotic 3D printing.
Designed by Humans.
Crafted by Robots.
We design and make sculptural lighting and interiors in Yorkshire, using robotic 3D printing to explore form, scale and the way materials work with light.

Meet ARIA
Our rather large member of the team.
ARIA is our robotic 3D printing system, based at our factory in Yorkshire. She builds lighting and interiors layer by layer, using polymer pellets rather than filament.
With a build area of up to 2 × 2 × 3 metres, she gives us room to develop large, sculptural pieces without moulds or tooling. We can adjust a design’s shape, scale and printed texture without starting the manufacturing process from scratch.
The layers remain visible, becoming part of the piece and influencing how it catches and diffuses light.
Waste Not, Want Not
Making better use of material.
We print each piece to order, building its shape layer by layer without moulds or tooling. That means we can make what’s needed without committing to large production runs or holding shelves of finished stock.
Recycled PETG is our main printing material. We’re also exploring plant-based polymers where their properties suit the piece.
We keep our print waste and prototypes, with a view to reprocessing them for future prints. There’s still work to do, but keeping useful material in use is part of how we’re developing the process.
Materials We Work With
Recycled PETG
Our main material for printed lighting. Its strength and translucency make it useful for larger pieces, while the printed layers catch and diffuse light, giving the surface its character.
Plant-based PLA
Made from renewable plant sources, PLA offers a different set of properties for furniture and interiors. We choose it where its finish and performance suit the design.
